Midas Tamarin

About Midas Tamarin

The Midas Tamarin (Saguinus midas) is also known as the Red Handed Tamarin or Golden Handed Tamarin. It is a small energetic primate, resembling a cross between a monkey and a squirrel. This tamarin has dark brown or black fur, with contrasting reddish orange hair on its feet and hands. It lives in co-operative groups of 4-15 members. It is an exceptional climber and spends most of its time among vines and branches of trees. It is quick, agile and a superb jumper, known to jump distances of over 60 feet from a tree to the ground with no injuries.
