Iris Lorikeet

About Iris Lorikeet

The Iris Lorikeet (Saudareos iris) is a small, upto 20 cm long, green bird. It was formerly placed in genus Psitteuteles. The genus Saudareos was introduced in 2020 for a clade of lorikeets that form a sister clade to Eos. The genus name combines the Indonesian language “saudara” meaning “sister” with the genus name Eos. The Iris Lorikeet has strongly built beak, more so than most lories and lorikeets. This bird has a lot of energy and is often kept as a delightful pet, but this is not recommended owing to its "Near Threatened" status.
