The Carolina Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) is a colourful waterfowl. Their breeding habitat is wooded swamps, shallow lakes, marshes, ponds and creeks. They usually nest in cavities in trees close to water, although in wetland locations they nest in nesting boxes. Unlike most other ducks, they have sharp claws for perching in trees.
