The Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) is a large waterbird with mostly black plumage and a red bill. These birds are typically found along inland waterways, rivers, sewage ponds and coastal lagoons and inlets. They usually move in flocks and sometimes nest in colonies. They are strong fliers. Black swans are generally herbivores (folivores). They are monogamous and often have the same mate for life. Of all swan species Black Swans have the longest necks relative to their sizes.
